INERCO in final stages of mechanical and civil engineering works at litoral de Almería thermal power station for Enel

INERCO is covering the final stage of the mechanical and civil engineering works at the facilities of the Litoral de Almería thermal power station in Carboneras (Almería), managed by ENEL. The project is part of the process to adapt the facilities to new European environmental regulations for thermal stations and have included installing NOx emission reduction systems in sets I and II and modifying the set II desulphurisation unit to improve its performance.

INERCO’s work at the plant was a technical challenge, as the necessary infrastructure was fully integrated into the existing installations. This, with the assistance of latest-generation technology such as 3D design tools (Tekla, Solidworks), combined with the scanning laser technology that INERCO uses, has resolved the complex network of structures, conduits and equipment associated to the new selective catalytic reduction reactors (SCRs).

Specifically, INERCO developed the calculations, design and detailed engineering for the SCR support structures and the proposed modifications to the set II desulphurisation unit. Key elements of this work were the design of the gas conduits associated to the new gas heater, the support structures and the foundations.

INERCO is to spend over 40,000 hours on the project, including staff transferred to the site to carry out civil engineering and project management for the works.
