INERCO CHAIR GIVES AWARDS FOR THE BEST FINAL PROJECTS BY STUDENTS OF THE SEVILLE HIGHER TECHNICAL SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

The INERCO Chair for Environmental and Safety Risks has awarded prizes for the best final projects by students of the Seville Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSI) at a ceremony held at the institution on 22 January. INERCO chief executive José González granted the award from this 8th edition of the ceremony to Ignacio Cañadas Moreno for the project “The development of a reliability, availability, maintenance and service (RAMS) methodology in the oil and gas sector. Practical application in a biomass gasifier”.

In addition to this project, the INERCO Chair also gave special mention to Ana García Ferrete’s project “Bases for an environmental assessment methodology for fracking projects”.

During the ceremony, INERCO president Prof. Vicente Cortés gave a speech on ETSI’s crucial role in promoting and developing innovation and applied research, “with the basic aim of offering clear support to industry.”

Regarding this, he highlighted the School’s intense collaboration within its economic and social context, “ties which have given rise to the majority of today’s corporate chairs, for example those held by CEPSA, EADS, Endesa and INERCO. These are pathways connecting the School’s regulated training with the realities of business and industry.”

The aim of the INERCO Chair is to promote teaching activities and interdisciplinary research into the situation, problems and perspectives of environmental and safety risks from all those perspectives considered relevant. The Chair works to develop a training programme and investigative work to contribute to improving ETSI students’ training in this area.

The INERCO Chair’s activities include, among others:

  • Activities related to teaching, research and the dissemination of environmental and safety risks.
  • Promoting, coordinating and producing student final projects on this subject.
  • Holding seminars and conferences.
  • Preparing teaching material related to the above activities.
  • Awarding grants and bursaries.
  • A call for candidates for the award for the best student final project on subjects related to the Chair’s objectives, according to the regulations in place at the time.
  • Collaborating with corporate chairs with similar purposes at other Spanish or international universities, with the option of entering into collaboration agreements with them.
