Vicente Cortés appears as guest expert at the international conference on climate change and carbon capture held in Seville
International energy and environment experts, including INERCO president Vicente Cortés, participated in the International Conference on Contribution of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in the fight against climate change, organised by the Chemical and Environmental Engineering department of the Seville Higher Technical School of Engineering.
The initiative is promoted by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and aims to evaluate and disseminate the importance of knowledge management in the energy sector, specifically with reference to technologies related to greenhouse gas emission reduction.
For that purpose, the event featured internationally renowned speakers such as Howard Herzog, lead researcher on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (USA) CCS technologies programme; Magdalena Strachinescu, head of the New Technology and Innovation Unit of the European Commission Directorate General for Energy; John Gale, general director of the Greenhouse Gases programme of the International Energy Agency in the United Kingdom; Francisco Javier Alonso, president of the Spanish CO2 Technology Platform; Samantha McCulloch, energy analyst at the CCS unit of the International Energy Agency in Paris, and Vicente Cortés, professor of the Seville Higher Technical School of Engineering, member of the Advisory Council of the European Zero Emissions Platform and Director of the Ciuden CO2 Capture programme since 2012.
Each speaker shared their particular view on the important role of carbon capture in contributing to the reduction of atmospheric CO2 emissions, not only in electricity production but also in the industrial sector, in line with the Paris Agreement commitments adopted within the framework of COP21.
