INERCO was an active participant in the event organised by Deusto Business School, “The future of renewable energy as a solution for sustainability”, held in Madrid on 2 and 3 March. The conference brought together experts from the most prestigious public and private bodies in the energy innovation field in Spain. The meeting also allowed for debate on the latest developments in the most important sectors of renewable energy, such as wind, solar, photovoltaic, marine energy, biofuels, biomass and geothermal.

INERCO, a company with demonstrated capabilities in engineering and technology and a particular dedication to innovation in energy efficiency and the exploitation of renewable energy, was represented by its president Vicente Cortés, who moderated the round table debate, which focused on innovations in carbon capture processes.

This sectorial meeting brought together the largest companies in the energy sector, including Iberdrola, Gas Natural Fenosa, Repsol, Sener, Gamesa and Abengoa, among others, and bodies such as the Research Centre for Energy, Environment and Technology (CIEMAT), the Basque Energy Agency (EVE) and Madrid’s Polytechnic and Rey Juan Carlos universities. The conference also featured the participation of experts from the United States Army Office of Naval research.

The conclusions of the expert meeting, in tune with INERCO’s strategic lines, demonstrated that the future of sustainability consists in innovation and technological development, promoting the greater penetration of electricity from renewable sources as well as energy produced from fossils fuels with carbon capture technology.

In this context, the Spanish renewables sector has turned the national economic crisis into an opportunity to move abroad, strengthening its position and becoming an international point of reference.
