INERCO prepares environmental impact and social management study for the Friaspata–Mollepata transmission line in Peru

INERCO is concluding a new strategic energy consulting project for large electricity companies. Specifically, it is preparing the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for the Friaspata region electric transmission line, a 100-kilometer stretch being developed by the ISA Group company Proyectos de Infraestructura de Perú (PDI) in the regions of Huancavelica, Ayacucho and Junín in southern Peru.

INERCO’s role also involved significant social management work, including obligatory and complementary citizen participation processes for populations of the area affected by the project. Obligatory processes involved participative workshops before, during and after the preparation of the EIS as well as public hearings, while complementary actions consisted in the installation of suggestion boxes and social promotion visits.

A total of 118 events (103 workshops and 15 public hearings) took place; the actions were coordinated by a technical team distributed into three groups, each made up of five professionals: an environmental speaker, a social services speaker, a social manager, a translator and a public relations specialist. The teams ran the project in three rounds (before, during and after the EIS), as well as the public hearings, which had an average participation of 50 attendees.

This action is part of the major project to link the Ayacucho electricity system to the National Electric Interconnected System (SEIN, for its Spanish abbreviation), included in the 2013–2017 investment plan passed by the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osingermin).

This important infrastructure projects will surpass the limitations arising from the age, tension and length of the old line, which runs from the Cobriza I substation to Mollepata substation. From there, the line will be more reliable and better able to meet demand in Ayacucho, Cangallo, San Francisco and other areas neighbouring areas.
